Base64 Encode and Decode Free
Encodes text to Base64 or decodes Base64 back to text, updating the result as you type.
About this tool
Text is handled as UTF-8 bytes, so non-English characters and emoji convert correctly.
Spaces and line breaks in the Base64 input are ignored when decoding, so a value split across multiple lines still decodes correctly.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our server.
When to use it
Base64 is used to represent binary data as text, such as attaching data to an email, embedding an image in a CSS or JSON file, or sending binary data through an API that only accepts text.
When decoding fails
If the text you enter isn't valid Base64 — for example it contains characters outside the Base64 alphabet, or its length doesn't fit — the tool shows "This is not valid Base64" instead of a result.
FAQ
- Can it encode text with non-English characters or emoji?
- Yes. The text is converted to UTF-8 bytes before Base64 encoding, so non-English characters and emoji convert correctly.
- Can it decode a Base64 value split across several lines?
- Yes. Spaces and line breaks are removed before decoding.
