About this tool
Highlights differences at both the line level and, within a changed line, at the character level.
Use the "→"/"←" buttons to apply a difference from one side to the other. You can keep editing afterward, and "Undo" reverses the last change.
Can ignore whitespace differences or ignore uppercase/lowercase differences when comparing.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our server.
When to use it
Useful for comparing a contract, policy or draft before and after edits, or for combining the best parts of two versions into one text by applying differences one at a time.
How to use
- Paste the original text on the left and the new text on the right. Differences are compared as you type.
- Lines that differ are highlighted, and within a changed line, the characters that differ are shown in a deeper color.
- Press "→" next to a difference to apply the left content to the right, or "←" to apply the right content to the left. You can keep editing the text afterward.
- Copy or save the finished text on the right.
FAQ
- Can I ignore whitespace or case differences?
- Yes. Turn on "Ignore whitespace differences" to ignore the number of spaces within a line and leading/trailing spaces, or "Ignore uppercase/lowercase differences" to treat A and a as the same. A different line break position is still shown as a line difference.
- I applied the wrong change. How do I undo it?
- "Undo" reverts the last applied change or swap.
- Is there a limit on how long the text can be?
- Yes, up to 20,000 lines combined between both sides. Turn on "Show only the differences" to collapse the matching lines (keeping 3 lines of context) when comparing long text.
