Distance Between Coordinates Free

Enter the latitude and longitude of two points to calculate the distance between them, in kilometers and miles.

You can paste the "40.689247, -74.044502" format that appears when you right-click a location on Google Maps.

About this tool

The result is the shortest distance between the two points along the curved surface of the Earth, not a driving or walking route.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our server.

When to use it

Useful for checking how far apart two places are as a straight line when you have their GPS coordinates, such as estimating a delivery radius or comparing distances from several locations.

How to use

  1. Enter each point as latitude, longitude. For example: 40.689247, -74.044502.
  2. The distance appears immediately, in kilometers and miles.

Finding a location's coordinates

On Google Maps, right-click a location (press and hold on a phone), and the latitude and longitude, such as "40.689247, -74.044502," appear at the top of the menu. Clicking it copies the value, which you can paste directly into either field.

How the distance is calculated

The Earth isn't a perfect sphere — it's a slightly flattened ellipsoid. This tool uses the GRS80 ellipsoid model and Vincenty's formula to find the shortest path between the two points, the same approach used in surveying.

FAQ
