YAML and JSON Converter Free
Convert YAML to JSON and JSON to YAML as you type, with the line and column of any syntax error.
About this tool
Values that look like dates, such as 2026-10-01, are kept as plain strings rather than converted to a date type. true, false, numbers, and null follow YAML's usual rules.
A YAML document split into multiple "---" sections converts to a JSON array. YAML comments, anchors (&), and aliases (*) have no equivalent in JSON, so only their resolved values remain after conversion.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our server.
When to use it
Useful for taking YAML configuration, such as a Docker Compose file or a GitHub Actions workflow, and turning it into JSON for a program that only reads JSON.
Also useful for turning a JSON config into YAML that's easier to read and comment, when migrating in the other direction.
How to use
- Pick a direction, "YAML → JSON" or "JSON → YAML", and type or paste into the left box. You can also drop a file onto it.
- The right box updates as you type; a syntax error shows its line and column.
- Copy or save the result, or use "Use result as input" to move the result into the input and convert it the other way.
Rules used during conversion
Date-like strings stay as strings instead of becoming a date value, so values such as release dates are never reformatted unexpectedly.
A document split into multiple "---" sections converts to a JSON array with one element per document. Comments, anchors, and aliases do not exist in JSON, so the output keeps only their resolved values.
