Japanese Address to English Converter Free
Converts a Japanese address into English format for online shopping, sign-up forms and international mail.
To convert it, the address is sent to our server, and the part after the block number (such as the building name) is sent to the Yahoo! Japan Text Analysis API to look up its reading.

Edits update the three formats below. Building names, and town names without an official romanization, are romanized automatically from their readings and may differ from the spelling actually used. A room number entered as digits appears as "Room 501" (a floor such as 3F stays as is).

About this tool
Prefecture, city and town names use the official romanizations from Japan's Address Base Registry where one exists.
Building names, and town names without an official romanization, are romanized automatically from their readings and may differ from the official spelling. You can edit any part after converting; your edits update all three formats.
To convert it, the address is sent through our server, and the part after the block number is also sent to the Yahoo! Japan Text Analysis API to look up its reading. We don't store the address.
English addresses are based on data processed from the Address Base Registry (Digital Agency, Japan).

How Japanese addresses are written in English
Japanese addresses go from largest to smallest; English addresses go the other way: room, building, block number, town, city, prefecture, postal code, Japan.
The block number joins the chome, block and lot with hyphens, such as 1-3-20. City names keep their suffix, such as Osaka-shi or Chiyoda-ku.
FAQ
- Is the result the official English address?
- Where an official romanization exists, prefecture, city and town names use it. Town names without one, and building names, are romanized automatically from their readings and may not match the spelling actually used. If the building has an official English name, edit it.
- Do I need the postal code?
- No. If you leave it out, the postal code field stays empty; the tool doesn't look up postal codes, so add it after converting if you need it.
