About this tool

All seven algorithms are selected by default; use "Select all" or the individual checkboxes to choose which ones to calculate.

The input is hashed as UTF-8 bytes.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our server.

When to use it

Useful for comparing two pieces of text for an exact match, checking text against a hash value you were given, or verifying data between two systems. It hashes the text you paste, not uploaded files.

FAQ

Should I use MD5 or SHA-256?
It depends on the purpose. SHA-256 or a stronger algorithm is used where security matters, such as detecting tampering. MD5 and SHA-1 are no longer considered secure and are mainly used to compare text for an exact match or for compatibility with an existing system.
Can the original text be recovered from a hash value?
Not by calculation. Hashing is one-way, so a hash can't be reversed. But short or predictable text can be found by hashing likely guesses and comparing the results, so a hash doesn't keep such text secret.
How do I copy just one hash value?
Press "Copy" at the right of the row for that hash.
