IP Address and Hostname Lookup Free
Look up the IP address of a host name, or the host name of an IP address. The direction is detected automatically.
Automatically switches between a forward lookup (host name → IP) and a reverse lookup (IP → host name) based on what you enter.
About this tool
The input format decides the direction automatically: an IP address triggers a reverse lookup, and a host name triggers a forward lookup.
To process your request, what you enter is sent through our server. Nothing is stored.
When to use it
Check whether a domain is pointing at a new IP address after moving to a different server.
Check whether a mail server's IP address has a reverse DNS (PTR) record set up.
See whether a domain has more than one IP address assigned, from the number of results in a forward lookup.
How to use
- Enter an IP address or a host name; the tool detects which one you entered.
- Click "Look up" to resolve it.
About name resolution
Input containing a colon is treated as an IPv6 address and looked up in reverse.
FAQ
- What happens if I enter a domain that doesn't exist, or an IP with no reverse record?
- It shows "Not found".
- Why does a forward lookup sometimes return more than one IP address?
- It lists every IPv4 and IPv6 address assigned to that host name.
